How to Make your Jean Skirt diy Apron
Elisabeth’s Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Cut the Skirt
- Cut the back of the skirt to your desired apron length.

- Then, cut the front of the skirt from the bottom up to create the top portion of your apron.

2. Iron the Pieces
- Give your cut pieces a good press so they’re easier to work with.
3. Hem the Edges
- Use safety pins at first so you’ll sow in the right spots. Elisabeth recommends hemming the sides and bottom before sewing the top and bottom pieces together.

- (Optional: If you’re skipping the top piece, simply hem the skirt portion and move to the ties.)
4. Assemble the Apron
- Sew the top and bottom pieces together (if using both), then hem any remaining edges.

Making the Ties for diy apron
Waist Tie:
- Measure your scrap fabric so it can wrap around your waist with room to tie a bow.
- Elisabeth cut hers 4 ½ inches wide to create a finished tie that’s 1 ½ inches wide after folding.
- If needed, sew multiple fabric strips together to get the full length.
Neck Ties:
- Cut two strips, each 4 ½ inches wide by 22 ½ inches long (see example of one below)

- (see picture of waste tie and neck ties below).

Sewing the Ties:
- Iron each strip flat.
- Fold each long edge inward about ¼ of the way.
- Fold the strip in half so the edges are tucked inside.
- Iron again to crease.
- Sew along the open edges.
- For the waist tie ends, fold and sew them at a diagonal.
- For the neck ties, sew the ends straight.
Final Assembly
- Waist Tie: Thread it through the skirt’s belt loops. Center it so the middle of the tie lines up with the middle belt loop. Stitch the tie to the skirt underneath each loop to keep it in place.
